Microblading healing, day by day

Darker at first, then flaky, then patchy, then perfect. Here is what normal healing looks like.

Brow artist performing microblading strokes

The brows you see right after microblading are not the brows you will end up with. Healing changes the color and look a lot over the first few weeks. Knowing what is normal keeps you from panicking.

Days 1 to 3: bold and dark

Right after your appointment the strokes look crisp and darker than you expect. The area may be a little tender or pink. This is normal. Follow your aftercare and apply the recommended ointment as directed.

Days 4 to 10: flaking

The skin starts to flake and may feel itchy. Do not pick, scratch or rub. Let the flakes come off on their own. Picking can pull pigment out and leave gaps.

Days 10 to 14: the ghosting stage

After the flakes fall off, many people think their brows disappeared. The strokes can look very light or patchy. The pigment is still there under a fresh layer of skin. Give it time.

Weeks 3 to 6: color comes back

The true color slowly reappears as the skin settles. By around a month you have a good idea of the healed result.

The follow up visit

Most people come back for a follow up so the artist can fill in any light spots and perfect the shape. This is a normal part of microblading, not a fix for a mistake.

Aftercare reminders

  • Keep the area clean with lukewarm or cool water on cotton
  • No brow makeup for at least two weeks
  • Skip saunas, swimming and heavy sweating until healed
  • Wear SPF 50 or higher in the sun for the first two weeks
